A Contemporary Translation of St Ignatius' Principle and Foundation

Posted by ERIC SANTILLAN on

The ultimate concern of our life is to FIND the talents given to us

and then to RETURN it back to the world and to God in service, reverence and love.

Each of us is invited to live to our full potential and be God's glory by being fully alive.

Through that search and through that return we find our life's purpose and the deepest meaning of our lives.

All that we experience in this world -- the highest of highs and the lowest of lows -- are there to help us fulfil this purpose and meaning.

But sometimes we forget this, and they become the centre of our lives and keep us from our search and meaning. The best proof that we have been derailed from our ultimate concern is when our lives do not make much sense.

And so we hold ourselves in tension before all these things,

Not choosing the high over the low, health over sickness, riches over poverty, success over failure, a long life over a short one,

For EVERYTHING has the ability to bring us back to the God who invites us to live life to the full.

Our everyday choice should then be this: Today, how can I live life to the full and thereby give glory to God in service, reverence and love?
